Thank You!

On behalf of the LCE Organising Committee, we would like to thank you for your attendance and contribution to the 15th CIRP International Conference on Life Cycle Engineering 2008.
The Conference was a great success with over 115 delegates attending from 28 different countries. An exceptional program was delivered over the three day Conference which included more than 110 presentations.
We would also like to thank the Conference Supporters for their contribution and support.
We hope that all those involved in LCE 2008 enjoyed the Conference and their time in Sydney.

About LCE 2008

The 15th Life Cycle Engineering Conference LCE 2008 continues a long tradition of scientific meetings under the aegis of the International Academy for Production Engineering CIRP. For many years extensive research in life cycle assessment, product development and sustainable manufacturing has produced a vast pool of knowledge, the application of which is still hampered by reluctant implementation of serious environmental strategies in practice. A recent boost in global environmental awareness now offers a unique opportunity to further the application of existing knowledge and accelerate developments towards more sustainable engineering solutions for future industrial products.

The LCE 2008 will be hosted jointly by the Life Cycle Engineering and Management Research Group at the University of New South Wales and the Institution of Engineers Australia. The conference will take place on the university’s campus in Sydney, which is home of the largest engineering faculty in the country, well known for its research on life cycle issues as well as solar and renewable energies. We are sure the conference will offer you an international platform for the exchange of ideas in a relaxed autumn environment in Sydney.

Invitation

These days, the whole world is talking about climate change, global warming and CO2 emissions. The Life Cycle Engineering research community has worked on engineering solutions for these problems for several decades, and finally we get some acknowledgement for the outcomes of this work through rapidly growing public interest and industrial application. This is a promising environment for our conference on Life Cycle Engineering, LCE 2008 in Sydney.

I wish to invite you to participate in our conference, either to present a paper or just to attend the presentations and meet with experts and colleagues from around the world. It is always interesting to hear what other countries are doing on environmental issues since this is a global problem, which needs global solutions. Apart from the attendance at the conference you can also enjoy the atmosphere of one of the most attractive cities in the world. In Sydney we still have clean air, blue skies, pristine beaches and a wonderful environment, and we would like to keep it that way.

I am looking forward to meeting you in Sydney in March 2008.

Prof. Hartmut Kaebernick
